MAC Member Spotlight – Rachel Kissick
I am a 28-year old mother of 2 Boys (3 & 7) and one girl (5). I work as the HR Director for Oak Pavilion Nursing & Rehabilitation. My husband provides the support I need daily to maintain my fitness goals with regular exercise and diet. Without him and his encouragement along the way I would never have come so far.
What led you to join MAC?
I first started working out at home with 5lbs weights and an online video. I made a deal with myself that I would sign up for a gym membership after I lost 50 pounds. MAC provides childcare, which was necessary for me with three small kids to have the opportunity to workout in the evenings.
Personal Success Story
I have struggled with my weight and body image since elementary school. After three children, I was 321 pounds, a size 28 pant (barely) and very unhappy. I was showing my children a poor example of how to eat and be active. So I started slowly doing work outs at home on my stairs, using little weights and an online video. Once I lost 50 pounds and joined MAC, I started using the treadmill and began circuit training. These activities allowed me to lose about 125 pounds.
Recently I began weight training with my husband. He has been teaching me proper technique and writing my fitness plan daily for optimal results. While the weight loss has slowed on the scale, I am seeing dramatic results in the way my clothes fit and the energy I have in my daily life.
Today I am 171 pounds, which is 11 pounds from my goal weight. I will then be half of the weight of when I started working out. I realize however, it’s not about the weight I have lost, but the example that I am now for my children that makes this all worthwhile.
Words of advice: The scale is just a tool, not a measure of who you are or your success in your journey.
Just start… no matter if it’s for 10 minutes on the treadmill or a CrossFit class, every step matters!
Way to go Rachel! You are an inspiration and story of success.
