Swimming Curriculum


1). RUBBER DUCKIES (3mos-3yrs):
  Safety in and around the pool
  • Learning how to glide on front, turning over onto back, then rolling over to front (tootsie roll)
  • Learning how to go under water next to the wall, pop up out of the water, grab wall and pull self out of the water (pop ups)
  • Learning how to climb in and out of the pool
Introductory skills
  • Bubble blowing (mouth and nose)
  • Floating on front and back
  • Flutter kicking on front and back
  • Submersion
  • Gliding
  • Arm scoopers in freestyle motion
  • Jumping into pool

2). RAINBOW Ribbon (3yrs-adult):
    • Blowing nose bubbles
  • Floating on back with comfort
  • Floating on front with face in the water
  • Gliding to and from the wall with face in the water
  • Flutter kick on front and back
  • Rhythmic breathing
  • Glide on front, turning over onto back, then rolling over to front (tootsie roll)
  • Correct arm placement for freestyle and backstroke
  • Underwater swimming

3). WHITE Ribbon (3yrs-adult):
    • Rotary breathing
  • Backstroke with correct arm placement
  • Freestyle using rotary breathing
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Streamline push on front and back
  • Tread water for 1 minute

4). RED Ribbon (3yrs-adult):
    • Sidestroke with correct timing
  • Breaststroke with correct timing
  • Butterfly with correct timing
  • Forward somersault
  • Flip turns for freestyle and backstroke
  • Individual Medley (IM) One length of each: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle
  • Diving

5). BLUE Ribbon (3yrs-adult):
 

  • 500 yards (25 lengths of the pool swimming freestyle with flipturns)
  • Pre-competitive swimming
